Johnsonite Wall Base & Stair Tread Installation

Johnsonite rubber wall base, Millwork profiled base, stair treads and transitions, installed by a commercial flooring crew in Greater Vancouver and on Vancouver Island.

About Johnsonite

Johnsonite is a Tarkett brand known for commercial wall base, stair treads, transitions and rubber flooring. Its products are widely specified by architects and designers for offices, schools, healthcare and public buildings, because they are durable, easy to clean and come in a wide range of colours and profiles.

Papa Flooring installs Johnsonite products as part of our wall base and cove base, safety flooring and commercial LVT work. Papa Flooring is an independent installer and is not affiliated with Johnsonite or Tarkett.

Johnsonite Millwork wall base

Millwork is Johnsonite's profiled rubber wall base. It is taller than standard cove base and shaped to look like painted wood trim, so lobbies, corridors and offices get an architectural finish without the chipping, denting and repainting that wood base needs in a busy commercial space.

  • Looks like wood millwork, performs like rubber
  • Resists scuffs from carts, chairs and cleaning equipment
  • Will not rot, swell or peel when mopped
  • Works with LVT, sheet vinyl, rubber, carpet tile and polished concrete

Because it is taller and profiled, Millwork base needs straight, well-prepared walls and careful corner work to look its best. We check the walls first, plan joints away from sight lines, and finish corners and door frames cleanly.

Johnsonite rubber cove base

Standard Johnsonite rubber cove base and toeless base are a dependable choice for most commercial rooms. Cove base, with its small toe, suits hard floors such as LVT and sheet vinyl. Toeless base suits carpet tile. We install it in long continuous runs with wrapped outside corners for a clean line.

Stair treads, nosings and transitions

Johnsonite also makes rubber stair treads, nosings, stair risers and floor transition strips. On stairs, a slip-resistant tread with a contrasting nosing helps people see each step edge, which is important in schools, clinics and public buildings. Transitions join different floor types, such as carpet tile to LVT, without trip edges. See our safety flooring page for stair and slip-resistance details.

Frequently asked questions

Do you supply Johnsonite products or only install them?

We can supply and install, or install products your contractor has already ordered. Tell us which you prefer when you send the project details.

Is Johnsonite Millwork base more expensive than regular cove base?

Profiled millwork-style base generally costs more than standard cove base, both in material and installation time, because it is taller and needs more careful corner work. Many clients use it in lobbies and front-of-house areas and standard base elsewhere.

Can Johnsonite base go over painted drywall?

Yes, on sound, clean and dry wall surfaces. We check the walls first, and repair or prepare them where needed so the adhesive bonds properly.

Do you install Johnsonite on Vancouver Island?

Yes. We serve Greater Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Sea-to-Sky and Vancouver Island, including Victoria and Nanaimo.
